Animal advocacy is a movement dedicated to promoting the welfare and rights of animals.

We advocate to prevent cruelty towards animals, improve their living conditions, and ensure they are treated with respect and compassion and lobbying for the passage of laws and regulations that protect animals from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

This can include advocating for stronger animal cruelty laws, bans on certain practices like animal testing or trophy hunting, and the enforcement of existing animal welfare regulations. animal advocacy seeks to create a more compassionate and ethical society where animals are treated with dignity and respect, and their interests are taken into consideration in policy-making and everyday practices.

1. Approach the High Court of Kerala to get a stay order on the capture of Arikomban Case Number: WPC 10551/2023

We advocate to prevent cruelty towards animals, improve their living conditions, and ensure they are treated with respect and compassion and lobbying for the passage of laws and regulations that protect animals from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the expert panel appointed by it and the state government to take a final decision by May 3 on the alternative site suggested by the forest department for translocating the rice-eating tusker 'Arikomban
This comes after two animal welfare groups, People for Animals (PFA) and Walking Eye Foundation for Animal Advocacy (WEFAA), approached the High Court on Wednesday.

2. WPC 27607/2024 seeking better upkeep and maintenance of captive elephants of Kerala citing Kerala captive elephant management and maintenance rule 2012

Walking eye foundation urged for an interim order that restrict further import of new captive elephants to the state of Kerala from other states citing the facts and grounds. The division bench comprised of Justice Jayasankar Nambiar and Justice Gopinath passed an interim order inline with our petition

4.Impleaded in civil appeal WPC 5947/2019 Ajayan Vs Kerala state in the matter of stray dogs in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India

Amid the rising stray dog menace in Kerala, an animal rights forum has approached the Supreme Court opposing move for culling of dogs. Instead, the forum has given a set of alternate proposals which can held in resolving the issue.The application for Intervention has been filed in an appeal which challenges the final judgment pronounced by the High Court of Kerala in which the Court had.

7. Filed WPC 1157/2023 on an animal Cruelty reported in Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and inaction of the Police regarding A couple of stray dogs were killed inside the campus of Taluk Hospital

Kottarakkara before the inspection for the Kayakalpa award for the year 2023. The cruelty response team of WEFAA attended this case and approached Station House Officer Kottarakkara for relief. The police refused to file an FIR and we approached the Hon'ble High Court via WPC 1157/2023 seeking necessary action. The single bench ordered the district police chief Kollam Rural to take appropriate steps in accordance with the law within six weeks and inform the petitioner via notice about the update of the case. Later SHO filed the FIR and conducted postmortem and the case is going on.

8. Filed WPC 14731/2023 in the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala seeking necessary action on the death of a sloth bear in Vellanad, Thiruvananthapuram

Contrary to the earlier claims of the forest minister A K Saseendran, the department-level inquiry into the death of a sloth bear that happened last Thursday at Vellanad has been frozen.
Following the preliminary level report submitted by the Divisional Forest Officer, K I Pradeep Kumar, who was at the spot, Saseendran had sought a detailed report from Ganga Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), who is also the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW).

9. Filed WPC 7086/2024 in the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala seeking the withdrawal from the unscientific darting of a wild elephant nicknamed Belur Makhna

A 20-year-old elephant, Belur Makhna, a radio-collared wild elephant came out of Karnataka forest and encroached on human settlements including a township which trampled a man to death on 10 February in Wayanad’s Mananthavady municipality, has so far eluded a 200-strong team of forest guards, range officers and veterinarians, and four trained elephants.

10.High court stayed illegal kalapoot event

Filed WP(C) 45686 seeking a stay on illegal Kalapoott and maramadi events happening in Kerala especially at Malappuram and Palakkad districts. The organization has approached the respective district collectors, Animal Welfare Board of India, and other competent authorities to stop these events by passing an order. The AWBI has issued a notice to director Animal Husbandry to do the necessary in stopping the illegal event and inaction from the respective collectors led the organization to approach the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala. The learned counsels appearing for walking eye foundation grabbed an order directing respective district collectors to address the issue immediately and take appropriate action in accordance with law. Later both the collectors passed the order stopping the illegal event in their respective districts.

11.Approached HC seeking treatment for injured elephant at Munnar

A wild tusker at Munnar got heavily injured on his leg. Despite various written communications, department failed to treat the animal effectively. WEFAA approached division bench of the Hon’ble High Court comprising Chief justice. Court initially observed that the injury of the elephant to be monitored and verified by the officials and directed Chief Wildlife Warden to look into the issue raised by the Petitioner and take necessary action as is feasible and proper in the circumstances. In the next posting DFO Munnar reported that the elephant is doing self-treatment and the wound is healing. Case dismissed accordingly
